Okay, so this first section's a bit disappointing in the picture department. I didn't have much time to take any photos while I was there, because I was busy working.
I got the opportunity to meet one or two friends there, but most of my time was taken up with standing duty and trying to get my fire control equipment fixed. While in port I was the only division officer standing duty as Command Duty Officer. Normally only the department heads stand that duty during deployments, but our Engineer Officer had stayed behind in Hawaii to be with his wife for the birth of their baby. (Of course, the little tyke didn't show up until halfway through the deployment, but that's another story.)
We stayed in San Diego for a few days, got all of our machinery and equipment up and running and then headed south. Our first destination was the lovely port of Acapulco, Mexico.
